Greater Valley Artist: Anne Schaefer
“Foreland Presents:” is pleased to announce the 4th edition of “Greater Valley Artists", with Valatie, NY resident Anne Schaefer.
Viewable Wednesdays-Sundays from 9am-2pm at 111 Water St. On view until Feb 16th, 2025.
"I am often sourcing, remixing, and riffing from my own archive" This way of working becomes actualized in these four works on display at Foreland as they are excised from a 2019 multi-panel, site specific installation, it comes and it goes. Pulled from their original configuration, reshuffled and reconsidered, the three large paintings (dawning, everlasting, present) create the new grouping, twenty-four hour palette. Their new composition allows for new visual relationships within the individual works as well as a unique relationship with the space. The quality of light and shadows that the work will experience each day in the space directly impacts and complicates the illusion of shadows, highlights, and layered space rendered in the paintings.
Anne Schaefer lives and works in Valatie, New York, her work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions throughout the United States. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Washington University and a Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Schaefer is a former print fellow at the Fabric Workshop and Museum and has been a college-level art educator for 15 years. She has been a member of a number of artist collectives such as Vox Populi as well as Tiger Strikes Asteroid, where she served as director from 2011-2013.
